~AN EXTRAORDINARY PLAN~

So this is how the story ends
It's no good to just pretend anymore
But I will never be the same
And I will not forget your name

We were shining like the sun
And we seemed to be as one for a while
But on the writer's final page
You and I had left the stage

Chorus:
An extraordinary plan
For such an ordinary man
I was shooting for the stars
And that is how I got these scars
When I came crashing down

Now that everything has changed
Maybe I should go away for a while
Somewhere to a foreign land
Anyone would understand

In my heart you'll always be
Part of you is part of me and I know
I will never be the same
And I will not forget your name

Chorus:
An extraordinary plan
For such an ordinary man
I was shooting for the stars
And that is how I got these scars
When I came crashing down

~ANOTHER CRAZY DREAM~

The fires light up the night
The shadows dance and arms reach for the moon
We held each other so tight
I heard you whisper "We've got to leave here soon"

Chorus:
Some kind of wind is calling me
I hear the sound but cannot see
Its really not the way it seems
Its just another crazy dream

A cold November day
A black crow watches the leaves falling all around
I turn and run away
As the undertaker bends to break the ground

The cities turn into stone
Theres no one left Im watching it all alone
Its hotter than the sun
And no one hears me cry, What have they done?

©1995 by Paul Buchignani

~CANDLE~

The door's wide open
The wind is blowing the trees around
Another empty night came crashing down
The only thing I'm living on is a memory
'Cause it's the only game left in this town

Chorus:
I left a candle in the window
I kept it burning all night long
But every morning brought no answer
And somehow I'm not feeling quite so strong

I tried so hard to justify but I realize
That I was living underneath your spell
I'm getting out Ive had enough of your crazy game
How did you learn to play it oh so well?

I left a candle...

I'll move away
And soon as I can start
I'll build a shelter
Around my heart
From this cold and dark

©1997 by Paul Buchignani

~DELUSIONS~

I used to think the word forever meant forever
I'd play for hour after hour unobstructed

No one hears you calling
Even though you're falling apart at the seams
There is one solution
It's my own escape from this daily routine

Chorus:
And now I'm happy just to live in a dream world
Don't try to bring me back to reality
If you're unhappy living there in the real world
Then you could join me and I'm sure you'd agree---You'd agree

You better pull yourself together was their conclusion
But all I ask is that you leave me to my delusion

No one hears you calling
Even though you're falling apart at the seams
There is one solution
It's my own escape from this daily routine

~DESTINY~

When I got the story it didn't seem real
And I had forgotten how bad you can feel

Chorus:
Was it destiny I don't understand?
I may never know but I guess it's all planned

Sitting in silence-no words to say
Moments are frozen then a flood of dismay

Chorus:
But if it has to be I don't understand
And I may never know but I guess it's all planned

Life won't you tell me what you want from me
When the ones you take away leave us so empty

Over and over we ask ourselves why
The end of a life comes in the blink of an eye

Chorus:
Call it destiny but I don't understand
And I may never know but I guess it's all planned

~DISTANT STAR UTOPIA~

I went to find the locksmith
But they told me there's no need
Locks are made for people and here we have no greed
Then I went to find a policeman
But none were to be found
Everywhere I looked I saw that good was all around

Chorus:
Where do you think you are?
Perhaps on a distant star
I fell asleep so easily
How could I get this far?
And how did I get here?
A dream? a scheme? a joke?
One thing that was clear
It was gone when I awoke

Then I went to find the doctor
But they said you never will
Harmony and balance here no reason to get ill
So I asked to see their leader
But they said what do you mean?
All of us are equal here there is no king or queen

©1997 by Paul Buchignani

~DOORWAY TO MY MEMORY~

Since you've been gone it's been so cold in here
Since you've been gone I've been so lost in here
The curtains move with every gust of wind
Is this the day that you return again?

There in the doorway to my memory
You slowly turned around and waved at me
You could not hear me when I called your name
You disappeared back to from where you came

Bridge:
If you can hear me now
Give me a sign somehow

The embers glow, the fire dies away
It brought no warmth into my soul today
Since you've been gone it's been so cold in here
Since you've been gone I've been so lost in here

©2002 by Paul Buchignani

~DRAWN AWAY~

Here in this temple
I wait for the moment to shine
Been here awhile
But I'm really not counting the time

Chorus:
Sometimes in life we get so drawn away
And the answers become so unclear
That's when I find I must stop for a day
Just to ponder the reason I'm here

Out in this forest
I hear the trees whisper to me
Doesn't take long
For my soul to wake up and go free

Back in the city
It's different but nothing has changed
Just like a room
Where the furniture's been rearranged

©2001 by Paul Buchignani

~DRIFTER~

When the air gets too hard to breathe I guess I'll move away
It will be so hard to leave the ones who want to stay
It's such a long, long road that lies ahead today
But I know that it's just the price I have to pay

Chorus:
Time to leave again
The road's your only friend
When you're a drifter like me

So many worlds within this world I've yet to see
They say you should settle down but that's no life for me
Sometimes you feel as though you're just a refugee
But I know that it will subside eventually

Leave your cares, leave your cares behind'

©1998 by Paul Buchignani

~FEELIN' FINE~

I'm in the same place
But it's a new time
I got the same face
But there's some new lines
Still I can't say it's troubling me
I'm nowhere, but it's nowhere that I'd rather be

The news of the day now
Is not so good
You know I would change a few things if only I could
But I've heard it so often before
Doesn't bother me much anymore

Chorus:
Oh...I'm feelin' fine now
It's all gone crazy but I'm not gonna pay it no mind now
The rats can run their race
But I'm not keeping pace
Think I'll stay inside today
They won't miss me anyway

A fanciful notion
Has come over me
I'll cross the ocean
Seek out some harmony
And that's where I'm sure it will be
There's a new world waiting for me

Somebody asked me
How are you doing today?
I couldn't be better was all I could think of to say
But they don't seem to care whether it's even true
And they don't have the time anyway to be talking to you

Chorus:
Oh I'm feelin' fine now...

~FIND MY WAY~

Anthony help me
Oh won't you help me find my way
And this I promise
That I will pay you back someday

These are the words I used when I was only a young boy
These are the words I use when I am lost and need
Some help along the way

All of my life I
Struggled to find my peace of mind
And to this day it's
Something that I have yet to find

Working your days away towards some life of illusion
Trading your time for pay until your journey ends
With nothing left to give

Audi nos cantamos audi nos'

Anthony help me
Oh won't you help me ease my mind
And this I promise
That I will pay you back some time

These are the words I used when I was only a young boy
These are the words I'll use the day the voices say:
'There is no time today'
No time today

~FRAGILE~

Close your doors
Bolt your windows too
'Cause the rabbit's on the run
You think you're safe from harm
You better realize
The earth can swallow anyone

Chorus:
How long can we live in a time
Out of balance and out of rhyme
The earth forgives every foolish mistake
But life is fragile and easy to break

Some are listening
Some will close their minds
Some will never see again
They don't understand
Nature rules the land
That's the way it's always been

How long can we live in a time...

Bridge:
What are you gonna do?
Well I just don't know
Where are you going to?
Nowhere to go
What are you thinking of?
What do you mean?
Guess I'll figure it out another day
Close your doors-Bolt your windows too
'Cause the rabbit's on the run

How long can we live in a time...

©1988 by Paul Buchignani

~HOLLY~

Holly come back here
I've got some things to say and you're walking away
Don't just disappear
'Cause when you boil it down all we've got is today

Chorus:
No I wasn't always there
Still my door was always open for you
So I just don't understand
What you said and what you're choosing to do

Living day by day
Appreciating just what a moment can be
Then you have to say
The future's closing in and I'm too blind to see

©1999 by Paul Buchignani

~IF I WERE YOU~

I gave my life to the system
And changed my ways to be just like them
But deep inside I slowly died most the time
And from this hole I never chose to climb

Chorus:
If I were you today
I'd pack my dreams and breakaway 'cause
I know you'll never find your happiness here
Never find it here

This day after day conformation
Can break your spirit and take your soul
You better run while you are young and strong
I only wish that I could come along

©1998 by Paul Buchignani

~LAVENDER~

Lavender's the way I feel today
I can't tell you why I feel this way
I'm carrying a world upon my shoulders
And I must admit I'm feeling older

Chorus:
Lavender blue
I'm turning to you
What would you do in my shoes?
Wading through time
No reason or rhyme
Now that I'm without you

Lavender's a girl I used know
I can't tell you why she had to go
But every now and then something reminds me
And I know I must put it behind me

Images of seasons left behind
Now have turned to winter in my mind
Frozen dreams await reality
But I need some help to break them free

©1997 by Paul Buchignani

~LIVING HERE THIS WAY~

Spend my time just making rhymes
As the evening falls around me
Guess there's nothing more to do
All that's left is an old guitar
And the four walls that surround me
Sure don't call this living, how about you?

Chorus:
Night or day it's really all the same to me
In the space of time I'm in now
Hard to say just how long I'll have to be
Living here this way now

I know this will pass away
And leave me standing taller
Fade into another day
Sentiments and memories
Have got a hold on me now
But time will chase them all away

Spend my time just making rhymes
As the morning falls around me
Guess I'll do it all again
I have heard that better times
Are just around the corner
But it's all the same 'til then

©1997 by Paul Buchignani

~MARCH OF TIME~

Faces change-Rearranged by the hands of time
Colors fade-Once again into black and white
From the mantle I hear a clock
The moments tick away

Chorus:
Even kings bow to their master, time
Empires crumble to the ground
All their armies cannot save them now
No shelter can be found
When time comes marching around

Fertile lands-Best laid plans turn to dust again
Earth and man-Life and sand become one again
In the distance I hear a bell
The moments ring away

Chorus:
Even kings bow to their master, time...

Setting sun-Rising moon and the ocean tides
Move as one-Day by day as the sands of time
Slowly pass through the hourglass
Our moments slip away

Chorus:
Even kings bow to their master, time...

~MATCH OF THE CENTURY~

(The Ballad of Bobby Fischer)

Summertime in Reykjavik - 1972
All the world was wondering what next would he do
As the Russians waited (he was two days late you see)
They had to make some new arrangements for the American prodigy

Still one question lingered through a dramatic opening scene
Could the lone man Fischer beat the Soviet machine?
A chess crown for America - The first in history
It was soon to be determined in the Match of the Century

Chorus:
Two great minds were now prepared
To meet on 64 small squares
As flags of both their nations were unfurled
Kings and bishops - Pawns and knights
Each move they made both black and white
Broadcast to every corner of the world

When it finally started there was tension in the hall
There had been reports that it may never start at all
But when the first game ended Mr. Spassky held the lead
Bobby did not play the next round and it was feared he would concede

Down already two full games it seemed the match was lost
Still he had his principles no matter what the cost
But soon the tide would turn could he have known instinctively?
When forty one moves later he was the winner of game three

Chorus:
Two great minds were now prepared...

In those days a cold war raged it seemed both sides would lose
Two great powers held their ground and pondered their next moves
But for just a few weeks it was called a different name
Where the battlefield was chessboard and the cold war was a game

Days turned into weeks until it reached September one
News reports announced that Robert Fischer had just won
And history was made that day in a faraway Iceland town
Never once before in Chessic lore had America held the crown

Chorus:
Two great minds were now prepared...

~MELANCHOLY MIND~

I went out late Sunday afternoon
Evening shadows growing fast
Took a ride to put my thoughts aside
But yesterday just seemed to last

Chorus:
You think you're on to something
But a melancholy mind
Makes it hard for those like me
To leave it all behind

I came by to see you one more time
But you wouldn't see me through
Now here I am so many years away
Still holding on to what we knew

I was all right before I-drifted away
Back to a time where I should-not be today

~MY OLD TOWN~

I can feel the early days of autumn
I'm back in town but no one seems to know me here
I stop to look at places I remember
There's the school I spent so many early years

You began your new life where you left your old
Even though they say you never can go home
Walking through my old town

Chorus:
And everywhere I see
Memories of you and me
I must be moving on-No good for me to stay
It's the last time I'll be
Walking through my old town

So I asked someone if they could help me
Try to find what ever had become of you
I was told that you had found another
And you lived the life you always wanted to

You began your new life where you left your old
Even though they say you never can go home
I'm walking through my old town

Chorus:
And everywhere I see'

~OLD WORLD TIME~

The spires of the ancients rise above the European skyline
Towering dreams of the past among the modern day ruins
The spirits are here still living from the mountains to the coastline
Keeping the centuries alive and watching all that we're doing

Chorus:
Come with me we'll ride along the rails of history
There's no time to waste because there's so much left to see
I hear the old bell tower chime
It takes me back to old world time

Ages have past but it seems somehow that I've already been here
Building cathedrals or fighting in a battle over England
Now under siege I wonder if my life is going to end here
But I can see horses approaching with defenders of the kingdom

©2000 by Paul Buchignani

~ON THE THRESHOLD~

It's the cold
It followed me here
And laid right down beside me
Any road
I chose to take
It always seemed to find me
Then I heard someone say-These words to help me

Chorus:
On the threshold of the rest of our lives
Lies the choice to either love or despise
Could it be that I've been wrong all these years
Grounded by fear
And drowning in tears

Spirits of
The future appeared
And laid right down beside me
I tried to run
But soon it was clear
That they were here to guide me
Then I heard them say-These words to help me

Chorus:
On the threshold of the rest of our lives...

~ONE OUT OF TWO~

Riding like the wind on the sands of this desert we call time
Never really knowing just who or what we leave behind
All the precious moments we take for granted like the air
And it is so easy to forget-I wonder if we care

Chorus:
Now I know that it's true
The answer is finally coming through
You see it is written in the stars
Take my hand we'll be one out of two

Can you remember when you were helpless as a child?
Try to see the world like you did for just a little while
Now when you look back you recall you saw me in a dream
That was long ago but very soon you'll find out what it means

©1998 by Paul Buchignani

~QUESTIONS~

If you lost everything you had
Nearly stripped to the bone
Could you look out across the land
With all envy unknown?
Or would all that you used to have
Keep haunting your dreams?
Well you could live in misery
Or you could feel more free

Chorus:
Oh, it's all borrowed time
These shackles and chains
Are all in your mind
Could it be
That simple is free?
It's a question for you
It's a lesson for me

If you lost everyone you had
Everyone you have known
Could you look out across the land
And be happy alone?
Could you make yourself promises
That you'd try to see through?
Realize there are others who
May be waiting for you?

©1997 by Paul Buchignani

~SHIP OF TRUTH~

I've walked a thousand miles
With a wounded heart
And found it hard to smile
Still I played my part

Chorus:
While we waited through the day
I was staring at the sky
When I finally looked away
The ship of truth was passing by

Oh clowns come take the stage
Join me for a while
And we'll be all the rage
'Cause fools are back in style

Your present is your past
Decisions that were made
But I could not forecast
My kindness was betrayed

©1998 by Paul Buchignani

~THE LEGEND~

Step up to the stone
And take your chances
One and one alone
Will lead us out of this

Chorus:
He who wears the crown
I will follow
To the bitter end
Or on to victory
I will proudly
Wear the colors of the realm

On to Avalon
The once and future king
He'll return again
I hear the people sing

©1998 by Paul Buchignani

~THE LEADING ACTORS~

Here we go again
On we go around and round
It seems that we’ve been here so many times before
And the questions that we have
Are never really answered
Could it be the more we wonder only makes us wonder more?

I sing to those who came before
Who left this world with so much more

Chorus:
Sometimes we’re hopelessly human
Really nothing special
When it takes all that we have to simply make it through a day
Still from the dawn of creation
To the ending of all time
Are we the reason for it all - The leading actors in the play

So the story goes
Pages full of history
How we began with nothing and the struggle to survive
Through the ravages of time
From the Stone Age to the Golden Age
Through plagues and wars to Renaissance we made it through alive

I sing to those who came before…
Who left this world with so much more

Chorus:
Sometimes we’re hopelessly human

~TRANSFORMATION~

I stand here
And turn my face to the sun
And welcome
A new day barely begun

Now mornings
I've seen so many before
But this one
I'll honor a little bit more

Chorus:
Bathing myself in the light and the sounds
Of a new day
Breaking the chains of the past now it's time
For a new way

I stand here
Arms embracing the sun
And welcome
A new life barely begun

In the middle of the night
I gained a new appreciation
It's coming to fruition
My transformation

©1998 by Paul Buchignani & Mark Kanning

~TWO ROADS~

Look at them down there-all running around
I can remember when I was part of that crowd
I took my first breath of air and the race was on
It lasted seventy years-and then it was gone

Chorus:
And now you say there's nothing here for you
But there's one thing I think you should know
You say that life is so unfair to you
But you can only reap what you sow

He sat me down and said hear what I have to say
There's two roads waiting ahead-you must choose a way
Your passion flowing within is a place to start
'Cause you've been thinking too much-look inside your heart

Then he disappeared
Left me here alone with my thoughts and my fears
But his words rang true
Maybe they can even be helpful to you

©1999 by Paul Buchignani

~WASTE OF TIME~

We talked about the future but we couldn't leave the past
You told me that you thought your life was moving much too fast
You said you're feeling down and you said you're feeling out
You said you're coming back again but I really have my doubts

Chorus:
And every time you walk away
It seems that you are gone to stay
Then I call you but you're M.I.A.
Could it be that you decided
That I was just a waste of time?

I can't think of a melody and I can't think of a rhyme
I can't make any sense of anything that comes to mind
The up is going down and the in is going out
And I could not begin explaining what it's all about

Here I am back where I started again
Lost in the moment and left to pretend

©2000 by Paul Buchignani

~WINTERGREEN~

I walk along a road-a winter afternoon
With a soul as barren as the trees
Straining under weight of thoughts and memories
And images that seem to walk beside me
I know I have to pull myself'

Chorus:
Away from yesterday
But I don't know when
Thought I could today
But evening's come again

On a lonely road-another afternoon
I can hear the sunlight on the snow
It's the sound of time melting my past away
Though nevermore will you be here beside me
I know I have to pull myself...

Away from yesterday
But I don't know when
Thought I could today
But evening's come again

December days are filled with promises
But so much time before they're seen
Surrounded now by only dark and gray
I'm searching for some wintergreen
